A Trust registered in 1985 by a group of women who saw the need for focused, practical research and training and communication for the non-profit sector. Shakti has always explored areas that need to be researched and also talked about.
Gender: Research@Shakti aims to centre women’s voices in research, advocacy and action. It focuses on everyday realities and inequalities around gender and other gender-diverse identities.
Informal Sector: Research@Shakti works towards bringing visibility to the invisible, especially the contributions of women in the informal sector; the focus being on livability and livelihoods.
Research Methodology: Research@Shakti emphasizes on participatory, feminist, and context-sensitive methodologies; one that bridges academia and the grassroots; western and indigenous methodologies. It is important to look at the How of research as well as the What of research.
Financial & Legal Literacy: Research@Shakti aims to centre around financial literacy; in an attempt to simplify structures, both legal and financial, equip women with the right knowledge and awareness, thus enabling them to claim their economic and legal space for making informed decisions.
